My name is Dennis Margueratt and I chose my user name as pilot 423 because in my military career I was a Pilot in HS423 Squadron, Shearwater, Nova Scotia, Canada flying the venerable SeaKing Helicopter. Today I am a instructor for two Ontario colleges teaching seven courses via distance education. I am also an instructional designer with a graduate degree from Athabasca University.
I am relatively new to the concept of blogging and have created this blog within WordPress to accommodate a course I am participating (non-credit) in called Connectivism and Connetive Knowledge at the University of Manitoba. I like the idea (concept) of connectivity as I think it is important in the field of education to always be on the look out for new ideas that will enhance knowledge development. Increasingly I see the days of the highly structured course format giving way to a more constructivist approach to educational development. In fact, except for the need to achieve credit for some form of credential, a great deal of the learning available to today’s active learner in freely available on the web in one form or another.
I hope someone out there working in the field of education might wish to engage in active dialogue on how we might enhance the traditional notion of education especially in a distance delivery format.
